The
Monitor,
a family owned publishing company, was established in 1993 in
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Its maiden issue, then a weekly English
paper, appeared in September 1993.
Responding
to the market’s demand, it evolved from a weekly to a bi-weekly
paper and soon to a thrice-weekly publication. In the year 2000,
The Monitor became the first and the only private daily newspaper
in the history of Ethiopia, a status proudly maintained to date.
The Monitor, throughout its presence for the last 11 years has
maintained a high degree of professional journalism. It has published
regularly and without fail, issues covering news and views from
all over the world.
During
its years of successful publishing business, it has secured a
reputable name as a reliable and impartial source of international
and national news, specially, among the international community.
In the pursuit of satisfying readers’ demand, The Daily
Monitor launched its first Weekly Amharic paper in the year 2003,
in Addis Ababa, followed by The African Monitor, a bi-lingual
paper launched in the U.S.A.
The
African Monitor is printed fortnightly in Baltimore and is circulated
all over North America. It is mainly tuned to serve the Ethiopian
Diasporas and is currently working towards covering more African
news to serve the larger population residing in America.
