By Binyam Tamene

ADDIS ABEBA(July 14,2007) - Millennium Festival of beauty will be held in Shanghai,China next month with new additin to the contest: 'Miss Teen Millennium Queen', Andy Abulime, president and CEO of The Ethiopian Life Foundation, told The Daily Monitor on Wednesday.

Andy said this special event for teen age girls aims to crown and award top five queens “considering the importance of the event in Millennium Festival of beauty with the titles: Miss Millennium Queens. Miss Millennium World, Miss Millennium Tourism, Miss Millennium International, Miss Millennium Intercontinental.

The main aim of the teen age pageant, according to the Andy, is to give the younger girls betwen 16 and 17 the opportunity to experience the prestige of a pageant.

The CEO said a girl from this group will be selected to be honoured ‘Miss Ambassador’
"If they like the experience they can move on to another section,” Andy.

The Ethiopian Life Foundation is organizing all the International major pageant franchises for Ethiopia this year, as in the past, according to Andy.

Andy said there will be six VIP judges for the special Millennium Festival of beauty.

The Jury Panel specifically comprises Miss Tourism Queen Sudan, Nakajima Jial; Miss Tourism Queen Congo, Diane Mizumi; Miss Tourism Queen of Nigeria Misel Uku; Miss tourism Queen DR Congo, Diane Mizumi; Miss Tourism Queen of Zambia, Sibeso Nailele; Miss Tourism Queen of Kenya, Rachel Nyameyo, Andy indicated.

Miss Tourism Sudan, Nakajima Jial, one of the judges, also told The Daily Monitor that she was pleased to do her job as judge and she said it is not the first time for her to be a judge in this kind of Competition.

"I did it once in Kenya, and I had a chance with many judges from different places and experience. That made the beauty contestants feel they were in to real cometetion,” she said ,adding:

“The confidence in them is the key in beauty that's I like about girls,' she said "I hope the competition will be fierce"

There are no judges from Ethiopia this year, though, The Daily Monitor has learnt.

Andy said efforts are underwas to see that Ethiopian judges are included in the jury.

"At the moment we have no Ethiopian judges but we are still negotiating with judges to be in the judgment panel", he said.

The President said he hoped to put together all the judges with the rmainig three weeks.”

Internationaly acccepted priciples and parametres will strictly be adhered to in the selection Selection of judges to avoid any further misunderstanding, Andy remindedrefering to problems occured during last year's Beauty pageant.

"What's generally acceptable in Ethiopia as Ethiopian standard may not necessarily match the international standard, they are two different view points", he pointed out.

"And therefore, It's the clear understanding of the international standard for the judges to be in the panel.

"It's from this pageant we send the girls to the international competition," he added
The President had this to say to the contestants:

“It's the whole process, and not a single session that matters!”

“It's the whole, entire process that matters,” Andy went on.

“The pegeant is for tose who come on time, those who pay attention, and those who are committed to be the Queen, not those who turn up in the last day to win” he said.

The contest is being held in collaboration with the Ethiopian Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Addis Ababa City Administration and Regional state governments.

On the other hand, the fourth annual edition of the Miss Tourism Queen International beauty pageant, Miss Tourism Queen International 2007 will draw some 111 contestants from around the world, including 23 year-old Ethiopian Rubiyat Mohammed.

Rubiyat was the top ten runner-ups Miss Universe Ethiopia 2006.

"I've been preparing for this beauty pageant for so long," she said proudly.

The Daily Monitor wishes the Foundation and her a succesful contest and her the best of lucks.
