By Our Staff Writer

ADDIS ABEBA(August 2 - 3,2008) - The Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Addis Ababa on Friday delivered 110 tons of locally produced Famix food to the Ethiopian Disaster Prevention and Preparedness Agency as a humanitarian donation to boost the continuous endeavors of the Ethiopian Government to combat hunger and malnutrition.

This was the second Egyptian food donation to Ethiopia in 2008, the embassy said in a statement.

It was offered by the Government of Egypt, through its Fund for Technical Cooperation with Africa, in the framework of the excellent bilateral relations between Egypt and Ethiopia. It aimed at helping Ethiopia to address effectively the current global challenge of the decline of the supply of food crops in international markets, it said.

"Egypt has been assisting Ethiopia in implementing its developmental plans and in mitigating the impacts of the drought conditions by providing technical and humanitarian aid.

The Egyptian Government will continue its long policy of solidarity towards the Ethiopian Government and people."

On this occasion, the Egyptian Government hopes that its modest donation will contribute to foster food security In Ethiopia.

In June 2008, a food donation of 150 tons delivered to assist the United Nations World Food Program's activities in Ethiopia was among the recent donations made by the country.
