MoME, MOHA sign mineral water mining agreement

ADDIS ABEBA(August 9-10,2008) - The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MoME) on Thursday signed an agreement with MOHA soft Drinks Industry S.C. enabling the later mine mineral water at small scale in West Gojam Zone Bure locality, Amhara National Regional State.

The agreement was signed by Alemayhu Tegenu, Minister of Mines and Energy and Getachew Birbo, General Manager of the Company here at Sheraton.

The Minister at the signing ceremony said that the government has designed encouraging policy in order to support investors in the sector.

The Company allocated 38 million birr capital investment to mine Mineral Water in the specified location.

According to the agreement, the License Area covers an area of 57 thousand meter square. The Licensee, for the coming ten years, will produce 180 million liters of mineral water.

The company's activities shall create 222 job opportunities.

The conducive investment environment which has created so far has attracted 65 privately owned exploration and mining companies, having 115 license, operating all over the country, the ministry said.

The Company shall give preference to domestic goods and serves as long as they are readily available at competitive prices and of comparable quality, it was learnt.
