NGO helps
needy acquire basic house keeping skills

ABEBA(August 14,2008) - Children Aid-Ethiopia
(CHAD-ET) on Tuesday graduated 50 trainees in food preparation, housekeeping
and childcare under its access creation program for street and working
children to basic education.
Annania Admassu, Managing Director of CHAD-ET said at the graduation
ceremony the trainees attended for eight months house keeping and
basic marketable skills.
The training had comprised two rounds of 80 percent practical and
20 theoretical lessons.
He added that most selected trainees for the program were needy people
who came from nominal income generating households with low chances
of joining in vocational institutions having migrated from the countryside
to find better living.
In collaboration with Addis Ababa Civil and Social Affairs, CHAD-ET
provided these trainings in different vocations for these pupils who
were not fortunate to acquire the mandatory minimum grade point requirements
to enter higher institutions.
CHAD-ET is currently establishing non-formal education centers, providing
academic and material support, integrating students into regular schools,
Anania said.
Prevention of child abuse, neglect and sexual exploitation; creation
of access to basic education for street and working children; health
program; community capacity enhancement program and advocacy; research
and net-working are among its major activities.
CHAD-ET is an indigenous non-governmental organization working for
the protection of the rights of welfare of children found under difficult
circumstances including street and working children exposed to sexual
exploitation, orphans and vulnerable children. Its mission is to promote
the rights of the child and to create access to basic services for
vulnerable children. It is working in Addis Ababa, Amhara and Oromia
regions in 15 projects. |
