Indians celebrate 62nd
Independence Day in Addis |

ADDIS
ABEBA(August 16 - 17,2008) - The
Indian community gathered at the Embassy of India in Addis Ababa celebrated
the 62nd Independence Day in the 60th year of the establishment of
diplomatic relations between India and Ethiopia.
About 250 members of the Indian community and friends of India gathered
as the national tricolor was unfurled by the Ambassador of India.
Gurjit Singh, Ambassador of India, said on the occasion the bilateral
relations between Ethiopia and India become in 'best track', "…
nowadays a diversified modern relationship increasing within Private
investment, capacity building on training and education, industries
and agriculture sector".
He read out the address of the president of India to the nation delivered
on the eve of the Independence Day. The president convoys nations
to fight against terrorism as a global problem, poverty, social evils
like discrimination against women, violence and addiction.
He also conveyed the congratulations on behalf of the Indian community
in Ethiopia to Shri Abhinav Bindra, the winner of the first ever individual
gold medal at the Olympic Games.
On this occasion, a special publication 'INDIA-ETHIOPIA 60 YEARS OF
BROADENING BONDS' was launched as one of the Embassy's special publications
to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
Ethiopia is one of the African countries signed duty free tariff preference
scheme for the Least Developed Countries, among 33 African countries
in India. Over 1.8 billion USD of Indian private investment largely
from small and medium enterprises invested in Ethiopia.
