Country to host 5th Int'l Federalism Conference

ADDIS ABEBA(August 18,2008) - Ethiopia will host the 5th International Federalism Conference scheduled for 2010, a government news agency reported citing the House of Federation as having disclosed.

Steering Committee led by Speaker of the House of Federation, Degifie Bula held its first meeting on 15 Aug 2008 for the preparation of the conference, ENA said.

Degifie said on the occasion an office shall be established for the sake of the conference as it helps to promote federalist system governance. He urged the committee to do its level best toward providing the conference an African touch, according to the report.

Besides its economic value, the conference will have a significant contribution in building the positive image of Ethiopia as well as in strengthening federalist system of governance across the country.

The 4th International Federalism Conference was held in New Delhi, India in Nov. 20007, Prime Minister Meles Zenawi expressed his country's readiness to host the 5th Federalism International Conference. The conference to be organized in collaboration with the Forum of Federations will be the first of its kind to be held in Africa, it was learnt.
